New Fake Grass Looks Like the Real Thing

Fake grass was first introduced in the 1960’s. It was used by Major League Baseball as a replacement to real grass. Back then, it was known as astro turf and used in sports stadiums across the country. Astro turf was easier to care for and was soon used in many different professional sports. These sports include football, tennis, field hockey and putting greens.

Over the years, astro turf has changed in many ways. Before, one could quickly tell the difference between artificial grass and the real thing. Modern technology and innovative processing methods have changed that. The fake grass used today looks and feels like real grass and is used in many personal and commercial landscapes.

Many people living in dry, desert areas have a hard time growing grass. The constant watering necessary to grow grass can be expensive and time consuming. Artificial turf is the perfect solution. It will always stay green and requires little time to maintain.

Fake grass is used in many commercial landscapes. One can find it at shopping malls, banks, schools and hotels. Artificial grass can be used to create lush indoor gardens or beautiful outdoor patios and yards. Astro turf is the perfect alternative for areas that get either too much sunlight, or not enough.

Traditional lawn care requires an investment of both time and money. You have to buy the seeds and sow them. Then pay for the cost of fertilizer and the time it takes to spread it on the yard. Once the seeds are planted and fertilized, one must devote time to watering the yard to make the seeds grow. As the grass grows, it needs to be cut so it does overtake the yard and become an eyesore. Whew, all of that work sounds tiresome and costly.

Using fake grass eliminates all of that work for you. The many benefits include no need to water, fertilize or mow it. Once it is laid down, artificial grass requires very little maintenance. To keep it looking like new, all you need to do is brush it once in a while with a large bristle brush. Adding a layer of silica sand, and brushing it in to the grass, will help to absorb moisture from the environment.

Other benefits of using fake grass are that there are no metals or chemicals used in the manufacturing process. There is no need to spend money on costly, and dangerous, pesticides or weed killers either. Many of the new artificial yard systems are now made from recycled materials. This helps to give them the soft feeling of real grass and is better for the environment too.

Fake grass is becoming quite popular. It is being used in the Home and Garden shows for demonstrations. Artificial turf is even being used by many crafters. Some of the hobbies it is used in include models, miniatures and even scrap booking.
