Hawaiian bedding

Hawaiian bedding is a popular and colorful motif these days. What comes to mind when you think about Hawaii?

The ocean, beautiful flowers and fauna, pineapples, the Brady Bunch’s ill-fated trip. (OK, scratch that last one.)

That’s what you’ll find when you shop for pillow shams and cases, sheets, comforters, and other bedding with a tropical Hawaiian design. When you deck your bed out Hawaiian style, there’s no such thing as too bold!

The emphasis should be on sharp color contrasts. For example, many Hawaiian bedding sets will match deep blue or green shades with bright reds and yellows.

Hawaiian comforters will often feature a solid pastel color on one side and a floral print design on the other. Pillows are often used to create color and design contrasts on beds featuring a Hawaiian motif.

Try adding an extra smaller pillow or two to the bed that highlight one muted color found in the comforter or bed sheets. Or, go the other direction and pick out some wild pillows with busy Hawaiian floral designs for a brilliant contrast.

One of the benefits of using a Hawaiian design is that you have many options. It’s pretty easy to find several solid colors of sheets for the bed that you can alternate every time you change the bedding. This gives your bed a new look without having to purchase more than one comforter.

Another fun idea for beds featuring a Hawaiian style is to accessorize with quirky extras. You can get grass skirt fringe to use as a bed ruffle, for example. Or try getting window curtains that match the pillow sham design. You can even go all out and get wallpaper with a tropical scene, or hire a painter to put a Hawaiian mural on your bedroom walls!

The idea is to have fun with it. Don’t stop with just an Hawaiian bed. Find a gaudy hula dancer bedside table lamp… get a handful of leis and put them on the headboard… buy an old beat up surf board and prop it in the corner. Make your entire bedroom a tropical getaway, even if you live in Montana!

You may have trouble finding Hawaiian bed linens at most of your favorite local retailers, but rest assured that when you shop online for bedding, you’ll have all of the world at your fingertips, with everything brought right to your door! No parking hassles, no waiting in line, whew!
