Crib bedding

Outfitting a nursery with crib bedding that’s well-made, safe, easy to care for is fun when you have the information that makes selecting the perfect baby bedding easy.

When choosing a crib bedding design, the first decision to make is whether you would prefer gender-specific or gender-neutral bedding. While there are many wonderful gender-specific designs available, for those expecting parents who want their imminent bundle of joy’s gender to be a surprise, they have access to a fantastic and ever-expanding range off gender neutral crib bedding designs.

When shopping for crib bedding, many parents wonder what exactly they should expect to purchase? While their are many variations, these are the four common bedding pieces and their purpose:

A bumper, whose purpose is made evident when the infant begins to roll. These provide a buffer between your new baby and the hard slats on the sides of the crib.

A crib sheet, for the mattress, which most parents put over a waterproof sheet to further protect the mattress.

A dust ruffle, which gives the hardware of the crib a lovely covering matching the general theme.

And a comforter. While this won’t be used in the crib for the first two years due to safety reasons, many new mothers find it’s just the right size for covering themselves and their new baby as they rock to sleep in their arms.

Some of the most well known and loved brands of baby crib bedding are:

Lambs & Ivy
Glenna Jean

Lambs and Ivy manufactures and designs baby bedding with lush colors and good detailing.  It generally features moderately priced three piece bedding collections for cribs, (with quilt, bumpers and a sheet), at around $50 US  and up.

A few of my favorite crib bedding sets from Lambs and Ivy are-
The Serenity, with purple blue and green squares,
Hello Kitty and Friends, with playful kittens on soft purple and light green,
and Choo-Choo Express, with fun trains and travel scenes in blues and orange.

CoCaLo quickly became one of the most popular new crib bedding designers, with exciting themes, colors and patterns. They normally offer moderately priced four piece bedding sets (with quilt, dust ruffle, sheet and bumper).

A few of my favorites crib bedding collections from CoCaLo are-
Alphabet Soup, which features bold letters on backgrounds of orange, red, light green and blue.
Sports Fan, which feature basketballs, baseball bats and soccer balls on green, tan and light blue colors.
Tropical Punch, with cute little zebras, baby elephants and hippos on paying yellow and orange-very cute.

Glenna Jean Crib Bedding, a family run business for over 25 years, offers some of the nicest most well-made bedding for babies available anywhere.  They normally feature a four piece set (sheet, dust ruffle, bumpers and quilt), at the higher end price range.

A few of my Glenna Jean favorites are-

Stop Buggin Me, which sports cute little bugs like dragonflies on backgrounds of orange yellow and green.
Surf’s Up, which has of fun beach theme with tropical shirts, surfboards and cars on printed straw mat look fabric and pastel colors.
The Out Of Africa Collection, which features leopard print fabric with lions with brown, tan and black.  A striking, unusual design for an exotic nursery.
Most all of the crib bedding collections offer nifty coordinated accessories to complete your nursery-like

wall hangings
wall borders
diaper stackers
additional pillows
rocking chairs

With all of these available options for your nursery, there’s no reason to wait to create that perfect, serene atmosphere for you and your child.
