Review of the Maclaren Volo Stroller: Is It a Good Purchase?

As new parents, one of the first things we discover is how much gear is takes to travel with a baby. Even at their smallest, an infant needs everything from a car seat to at least one stroller. The first stroller purchase is often a travel system, which can be bulky to use. Once the newborn heads towards the 6-month stage, many parents look to cut down on the bulk of their travel systems. This is where too many make the mistake of buying a cheap, flimsy umbrella stroller. Compact strollers need not be as disposable as the basic umbrellas. An investment like the Maclaren Volo Stroller is a solid choice for keeping your baby safe and your life mobile.

Comparison Table

What Is the Maclaren Volo Stroller?

The Maclaren Volo Stroller is a luxury compact stroller. It has the portability of an umbrella stroller with a longer lifetime of use. While designed to be portable, it is not stripped of many of the features most parents appreciate in a full-sized stroller. The fact that it has a five-point harness, for example, sets this stroller apart from more generic umbrella strollers.

Product Specs

Users are amazed at how little this stroller weighs. At just 10.7 pounds, it is easy to get it in and out of the car. It is also portable for travel including public transportation or flying. The Maclaren Volo Stroller comes fully assembled complete with a custom-fit rain cover. The core of the stroller is made of lightweight yet sturdy airplane-grade aluminum. Unlike regular umbrella strollers, this stroller is designed with shock-absorbing support.   Having the ability to take the seat all the way off to wash makes this stroller last much longer than most umbrella strollers. We also loved the peace of mind tied to the security of the five-point harness, which makes it great for kids from 6-months on.   Another key feature of this stroller is the flexible sun canopy. It fully extends to cover the rider and protects with UPH 50+.

Pricing

The Maclaren Volo Stroller can be purchased on Amazon for under $$$. The stroller comes with the fitted rain cover but other accessories need to be purchased separately. The other strollers in this review range in price from as low as around $ all the way up to over $$$. As with most purchases, a low price tag can often mean a sacrifice in quality.

How It Compares

We picked a few similar products available on the market to see how they compare.

Maclaren Volo Stroller

Maclaren Volo Stroller, Silver/Black
  • Basic weight of 10.6lb; Ideal for children 6 months and up to 55lb.
  • A breathable mesh seat with single-position recline
  • Includes: premium wind-resistant raincover

Ease of Use

This stroller is designed to be used on a daily basis and it stands up to long-term use. Features like a fully removable seat make clean-up easy. We also found that the lightweight design makes this easy to move from car to car. This is a bonus for families who have more than one car but do not want to buy multiple strollers.

Assembly Time

The Maclaren Volo Stroller ships fully assembled. There are no directions to read or tools to find. As quickly as you can get the box opened, it is ready to go. Even the add-ons like the rain cover are super easy to use. We can not say enough about how great it is to not have to fumble through putting this together.

Durability

The only feature we were not completely sold on was the use of plastic wheels on the Maclaren Volo Stroller. While parents are not running to fill tires like they may need to do on many jogging strollers, the use of plastic wheels may take time off of the lifetime of this product. The wheels are replaceable, so all is not lost in their use of plastic.

Safety Standards

The Maclaren Volo Stroller has something the average umbrella stroller does not: it has a five-point harness for safety. This makes it safe for use with babies 6 months old and up. Using breathable mesh also keeps the baby from overheating, which adds to the safety of this product.

Because the Maclaren Volo Stroller comes fully assembled, the manufacturers have removed the chance of user error during assembly. This makes it even safer in our book. There are no worries about what to do with “extra” parts that do not seem to fit after assembly.

PROS

  • Lightweight at 10.7 pounds
  • Five-point harness safe for babies 6 months and older
  • Seat comes off for ease of cleaning

CONS

  • Plastic wheels may need to be replaced
  • Seat does not recline
  • Cost can be out of the budget for some parents

The low price of this stroller is the biggest stand-out feature. It is made to be a basic step above the generic umbrella stroller. It is under 10 pounds, which makes it portable. It also has the standard sun canopy and a five-point harness. Only two of the four wheels have suspension features which can make for a bumpy ride.

Ease of Use

While the price of this unit is far below the Maclaren Volo Stroller, the user gives up far too many design features. The storage under the seat, for example, is not made to carry much at all. This means most diaper bags or purses have to be hung on the back of the stroller which makes them unstable.

Assembly Time

Assembly was less than smooth. This product is not as easy to take apart for cleaning as the Maclaren Volo Stroller, either.

Durability

The sturdy build seems durable. The only issue we saw was a lack of flexibility to grow with the child as the seat is narrow.

Safety Standards

The addition of the five-point harness to this stroller is a key safety upgrade. We had an issue with steering at times as only two of the wheels have suspension. The small size of the storage space under the seat left us needing to connect the diaper bag to the handle which also made the stroller less safe.

PROS

  • Weighs less than 10 pounds
  • Five-point harness
  • Budget-friendly

CONS

  • Seat is narrow
  • Sun canopy is not as flexible as the other strollers
  • Lack of storage space

This travel system is made to last a lifetime and then some. Because of the hefty price tag, we look at this system as an investment to last through several children. The design is modern and ergonomic. It is also fully equipped with a variety of attachments that take the system from newborn to toddler and beyond.

The shock absorbing system and supports of the stroller make it safe to use just about anywhere. This is not an umbrella stroller by design.

Ease of Use

This travel system drives like a luxury vehicle. The ride is smooth. It also easily switches from a base for an infant carrier to a stand-alone stroller.

Assembly Time

There is a learning curve to get everything working. It is not something that we thought was easy but it was worth the time to figure out.

Durability

The travel system is made to follow the child from birth to age three. It is well-made with a price tag to match.

Safety Standards

The modern design is geared towards both comfort and safety. The ride is also comfortable, and the stroller is easy to use.

PROS

  • Flexible design for infants to age three
  • Full travel system
  • Smooth ride

CONS

  • Priced out of many budgets
  • Not as lightweight as the umbrella strollers
  • Travel systems can be bulky

The Joovy Zoom 360 is a classic, three-wheeled jogging stroller. It is designed to be used on a variety of surfaces and comes with inflatable tires instead of plastic wheels. The large 12-inch swivel front wheel makes steering easy. While it is compact for a jogger, it is not compact when compared to the other strollers on this list.

This stroller does offer the highest riding seat as compared to the others on the list. This is a bonus feature for older children as it increases their visibility. There is also a five-point harness for safety.

Ease of Use

At almost 26 pounds, this stroller will not be as easy to get in and out of the car as an umbrella stroller is. The larger wheels make it easier to turn while in use but harder to stow in the trunk of a car. The single-hand opening feature is something often missing from some joggers, so that is an added bonus.

Assembly Time

Some assembly is required and basics like the under-seat storage need to be added later.

Durability

This unit is durable enough for off-road use. It is less easy to clean, however, so it may become stained. We liked having real tires instead of plastic wheels.

Safety Standards

The use of tires instead of plastic wheels makes this safe for use on a variety of surfaces. The flexibility to attach an infant car seat to the top of the jogger also adds to the safety of the stroller since you can use the car seat for children who are too small to safely use the seat.

PROS

  • Made for use on a variety of surfaces
  • Can attach an infant car seat to the stroller for use with smaller children
  • Front swivel wheel makes steering easy.

CONS

  • More than double the weight of the umbrella strollers on the list
  • Larger wheels make this stroller less compact
  • Flat tires can become a problem as they are less predictable than a plastic wheel with visible wear

Conclusion

When we compared these four strollers, several factors played a role in our final pick. We compared the strollers by cost, ease of use, design, and size when not in use. Each stroller seemed to stand out for different reasons.

Based on cost alone, the Kolcraft Cloud Umbrella Stroller was the most budget-friendly buy and suited the needs of the average toddler. This stroller is nothing fancy but gets the job done. It is made to be portable and easy to use. It is also the lightest stroller on the list. The no-frills design seems to fit with the price. What we missed with this product were key features like a large under-seat storage area and adjustable seats. It also is not meant to be used with newborns or small infants as there is no way to attach a car seat or secure a small baby.

When looking at the ease of use of each of the strollers, the Maclaren Volo Stroller stood out simply because it came already put together. There was no guesswork involved or hours spent trying to figure out how everything fits together. The stroller also came with ample storage so it was a step up from the Kolcraft stroller. Having the ability to take the seat all the way off to wash it instead of just wiping it down added to the ease of use.

Without looking at the cost of the strollers, the modern design of the Hot Mom 3 in 1 Travel System was eye-catching. It is sleek and smooth, but that comes with a hefty price tag. Because it is a travel system, it is the most flexible of all the strollers. It can be used from birth and up. The design of the Joovy Zoom 360 was also impressive to us. The jogger was not as compact as the other strollers. While it is compact perhaps for a jogger, it couldn’t compare to the two umbrella strollers on that front.

The Maclaren Volo Stroller stood out as the overall winner in this comparison. While it was not the cheapest on the list, it was priced well for the range. It is also made to be compact and user-friendly. the compact size makes this the go-to choice for families looking for a stroller that can be easily moved between vehicles. We gave them bonus points for not making us figure out how to put it together, too.

The only thing we did not love about the Maclaren Volo Stroller was the plastic wheels. That is a pretty easy fix, though, as they can be replaced as needed.

Ghostbed Reviews

Are you currently getting the best sleep possible? According to recent studies, roughly 75% of Americans don’t get the recommended amount of sleep each night, and at least half of Americans report their sleep as “poor.” With results like these, we shouldn’t be surprised that we feel exhausted throughout the day. If you’re one of these sufferers, then the GhostBed may be your answer to better sleep.

Poor sleep can cause several health problems — even some that don’t seem related to lack of sleep at all. Heart disease diabetes, and weight gain are all health problems in which not getting enough sleep can play a role in worsening your condition. But, even people who are sleeping fine need to do what they can to preserve their rest.

There is a new trend in mattress manufacturing right now in which most companies are moving away from the old inner-spring style mattresses to layered, memory foam-styles that contour to your body and prevent partners from disturbing each other in sleep. Following this trend are GhostBed and its competitors, all of which offer similar layers of foam and cooling technology.

There are so many mattress options on the market now, it can be difficult to decide which one may be right for you. To help, we’ll offer you a closer look at what a GhostBed actually is and how it stacks up against similar products.

What Is a GhostBed Mattress?

It may seem like an odd name for a mattress, but the origins of GhostBed are innocent enough. This mattress is named “GhostBed” because the inventor of it was afraid of ghosts under his bed as a child. This serious-yet-fun attitude has stayed with him as he invented a new kind of mattress to help people achieve good rest.

As a whole, the GhostBed is comprised of three parts: a foundation/frame, an adjustable base and the mattress. All parts work together to create a superior sleep experience.

The GhostBed mattress itself consists of three layers for optimal comfort and a great night of sleep. The bottom layer is 7.5 inches of high-density foam designed to support your body without feeling too rigid.

The middle layer is composed of 2 inches of gel memory foam. This particular gel memory foam, unique to GhostBed, uses larger cells than traditional memory foam, effectively moving heat away from the body to keep you cool throughout the night.

The final layer of the GhostBed mattress consists of aerated latex foam. There are small holes in the latex to whisk heat away from your body, further facilitating its cooling effect.

Each GhostBed comes with a plush cover made of a viscose/polyester blend that provides luxurious comfort under your sheets. Rated at a 6.5 for firmness, the GhostBed falls right in the center of the scale, providing a good night’s rest on a mattress that’s neither too firm nor too soft. It has been proven to relieve shoulder, hip and back pain and consistently rates as one of the best new mattresses on the market.

Product Specs

The GhostBed is made of three layers: high-density foam, gel memory foam and aerated latex foam. It’s available in six different sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king and California king.

A purchase of a GhostBed mattress brings with it the option of purchasing a frame or foundation to go with it. Or, you can simply use the mattress to fit into the bedframe you already own. In addition to being supremely comfortable, the GhostBed is environmentally friendly. Each one is CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they are made without matrials that deplete the ozone, such as PBDEs, TDCPP, TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead or other heavy metals, formaldehyde and phthalates (as regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission). The mattress also boasts of low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions, improving your indoor air quality.

The GhostBed mattress is vacuum-compressed before it is shipped in a trendy green and white box. Once it arrives, and you have removed the plastic wrapping, your new mattress will expand to full size in as few as 5 days. This makes getting your new mattress home and into the room where you need it fast, easy and fun (it’s kind of interesting to watch them expand!)

Pricing

The GhostBed mattress can be found on the manufacturer’s website for about $450-$1,100. Prices vary based on the size of the mattress, with the smallest (the twin size) starting at about $450 and the largest (the California King size) costing around $1,100. With that said, we should note here that we found the prices all about $100 cheaper for each size on Amazon.com.

Conclusion

If you are in the market for a new mattress, the GhostBed is one of several choices that follow the trend of memory foam products that can be shipped to your door. No longer do you have to go to a store, pick out a mattress from a showroom and pay to have it delivered to your home by a moving crew.

Old-style mattresses are difficult to maneuver through your home. The GhostBed comes compressed and reanimates within a few days. Its three-layer design provides ultimate comfort, and it’s extremely environmentally friendly. This mattress also comes with a cover, which is a bonus product that makes the GhostBed a step above the others.

When compared to other products, such as the Leesa, the Casper and the Purple mattresses, it provides comparable comfort levels and durability. If you are looking to try one of these new, memory foam-based mattresses, we recommend that you take advantage of their in-home trials. A mattress is a personal purchase, and all four performed equally well when it comes to comfort, cooling and durability.

Overall, the GhostBed receives a rating of 5 Stars. It performed well in every category, is easy to set up and most customers report being very satisfied with their product. We highly recommend the GhostBed mattress as a superior product, but also recommend you consider the other very comparable products based on your body’s sleep needs. Memory foam mattresses are the way of the future, and with a little research and possible a trial period, you should be able to find one that meets your body’s needs as well as your aesthetic desires.

Cariloha Sheets Review: A Good Bamboo Sheet Option?

Cariloha Classic Bamboo Sheets

Image from Amazon

Some truths are self-evident, but here are a few facts just in case you needed a reminder: sleep is important, sleep is best on a comfortable bed, and a comfortable bed has comfortable sheets. We can extrapolate then that good sleep is linked to good sheets. Recently, bamboo sheets have become all the rage in sleep trends specifically for their comfort. This Cariloha Sheets review will outline why bamboo sheets should be on your bed and why Cariloha are the best bamboo sheets on the market.

What Are Cariloha Sheets?

caroliha sheets

Image from Amazon

If you haven’t heard of bamboo sheets, then this Cariloha Sheets review will give you a crash course in everything you need to know about them. The first thing you should know? Bamboo sheets are a terrific choice for hot sleepers, people with sensitive skin, and people with allergies.

Cariloha Sheets are made of 100% organic bamboo, which is a material that is soft to the touch and incredibly breathable for fabric. In general, bamboo bedding is much more durable than cotton counterparts because of how the bamboo is woven with long fibers to create fabric. Bamboo is one of those rare resources that can be made into many different materials and still be affordable, eco-friendly, and durable.

However, as you’ll find in the following Cariloha Sheets review, not all bamboo sheets are created equally.

Product Specs

No products found.

Cariloha Sheets are the best of the best for a reason. These bamboo bedsheets are soft and comforting to the skin and completely hypoallergenic as well as being odor resistant. These sheets are also lighter in weight than cotton sheets, which means that your overall sleeping temperature will be cooler since the fabric is so breathable. And because bamboo is a naturally renewable resource that replaces itself in about 3 years after harvesting, bamboo sheets and other products made from bamboo are friendly to the environment.Cariloha sheets come in sizes for all beds, including for twin, double, queen, king, and California king-sized mattresses. These sheets are designed to fit mattress depths up to 18 inches, so you won’t need to worry about any mattress pads straining the fit of the sheets. The sheets also come in many different color options, so they will fit in nicely with any bedroom decor. Cariloha sheets are machine washable and dryable.

Pricing

If you’re looking at price comparison in this Cariloha Sheets review, you might notice that Cariloha Sheets are a tad pricier than other options. But there’s a good reason for that. To put it simply, Cariloha sheets are just better quality, so you really get what you pay for. Cariloha sheets are also unique in the sense that they come with lifetime warranties. You might also consider that Cariloha sheets won’t need replacing any time soon, so they’re a good investment even if you get a second spare set for the same bed.

How It Compares

For the sake of comparison and to make this Cariloha sheets review fair, we picked a few similar bamboo sheets that are also popular on the market. If you’ve been shopping around for bamboo sheets, you might have run into these options. We’ll compare and contrast these bamboo sheets for you. We structured our reviews based on comfort, quality, value, maintenance, and warranty. We even included a few key pros and cons of each product for a snapshot of how each sheet ranks against the others.

  • Pure Bamboo Sheets 4pc Bed Sheet Set
  • Malouf Woven 100% Rayon from Bamboo Sheet Set
  • Hotel Sheets Direct 100% Bamboo 4 Piece Bed Sheet Set

Comfort

Soft as silk but woven like cotton, these bamboo sheets put comfort first. They are breathable, keep you cool in your sleep, and are lightweight. Cariloha sheets are softer than any cotton or cotton blend fabric you’ve ever touched – it’s basically like sleeping wrapped up in cloud vapor and soft kittens.

Quality

Cariloha sheets are the top of the top when it comes to bamboo sheets. Right out of the gate, bamboo sheets are more durable than other sheets, but Cariloha crafts their organic bamboo sheets with such mastery that the quality just cannot be rivaled by any other brand.

Value

Pricey? Yes. Great value? Also yes. Cariloha sheets are a one-time purchase that will last for years and years. Other sheets need to be replaced, but Cariloha Sheets are an investment that pays for itself over time.

Maintenance

Completely machine washable and safe for the dryer, these sheets do best washed in warm water on a delicate setting and dried on a low heat setting. However, the sheets can also be air-dried to avoid wrinkles if not put to immediate use.

Warranty

Two words: lifetime warranty. If something happens to your sheets or you aren’t satisfied with the durability of the sheets, Cariloha has your back. Considering the price of a single set of sheets, this lifetime warranty is a great comfort for consumers.

Pros

  • Hypoallergenic
  • Organic and eco-friendly
  • Unbelievably comfortable

Cons

  • Some wrinkling
  • Pricey

These sheets are a four-pieceT set that comes in twin, double, queen, and king sizes. Also made of organic bamboo, these are probably the closest direct comparison to the Cariloha in the entire Cariloha Sheets review. You can think of Pure Bamboo sheets as being Cariloha’s slightly less expensive cousin.

Comfort

Like we said earlier, bamboo sheets are point-blank more comfortable than other kinds of sheets, including sheets that are made from blended fabrics. Pure Bamboo sheets are made from totally organic bamboo, so they are lightweight and soft. Pure Bamboo also stakes a claim that their sheets are sweat-wicking, which is great for muggy summer nights.

Quality

Pure Bamboo sheets are double stitched to enhance the overall durability of the sheets. Like Cariloha sheets, these sheets are woven from long bamboo fibers. Pure Bamboo sheets are a 300 thread count.

Value

Pure Bamboo is a good investment, especially if you aren’t sure bamboo sheets are the sheets for you.

Maintenance

These sheets do best if they are washed in cold water and left to air dry. Some customers find that putting these sheets in the dryer causes more wrinkles and pilling.

Warranty

While it’s not a lifetime warranty, Pure Bamboo does offer a money-back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied with their product.

Pros

  • Hypoallergenic
  • Sweat-wicking and lightweight
  • 300 thread count

Cons

  • Sheets are prone to pilling
  • No California King size

Malouf comes in about a dozen different sizing options, including split beds. With many different color options and a brag-worthy deep pocket size on the fitted sheet, Malouf sheets are a good option. However, these sheets are a blend of rayon and bamboo fabrics, which might be a hard pass for some shoppers.

Comfort

As a bamboo-blended sheet set, Malouf is soft and lightweight. However, these sheets aren’t clouds-and-kittens-soft – if anything, they’re about as soft as your average rayon-cotton blended sheet set. These sheets are also lightweight and cool, with sweat-wicking features that might be appealing for those who sleep hot.

Quality

Malouf sheets are good, average quality sheets. One of the biggest draws for these sheets is their 22-inch-deep pockets and the crisp fit provided by the double elastic band.

Value

Although not 100% organic bamboo, these bamboo-blended sheets are a solid option for those with sensitive skin or for those who need specific sheet sizes for specialty beds.

Maintenance

Rayon can be a difficult material to take care of since it is so prone to wrinkling and pilling. Wash these sheets in cold water and tumble dry on low.

Warranty

These are expensive sheets that have no warranty, probably because they are imported directly from China. That means that these pricey sheets are an investment without insurance, which is dicey if you aren’t entirely confident about the quality.

Pros

  • Hypoallergenic and good for sensitive skin
  • Soft, lightweight, sweat-wicking
  • 22-inch pockets

Cons

  • Rayon and bamboo blended fabric
  • Material pills and wrinkles
  • No warranty

With bright colors and all the main sizes you could ever need, Hotel Sheets are an affordable, budget-friendly bamboo sheet set. These sheets have a bottom sheet, a top sheet, and two pillowcases. Hotel Sheets are affordable enough to serve as a testing set if you aren’t sure bamboo sheets are right for you.

Comfort

If it hasn’t sunk in yet, we’ll say it again. Bamboo sheets are soft, especially pure bamboo sheets. Even cheaper sets like these, with their slightly lower quality, are softer than most cotton sheets. Hotel Sheets compares their texture to silk. Hotel Sheets are thermo-regulating, so they’re cool to the touch just like other bamboo sheets. They’re also moisture-wicking for hot nights.

Quality

These are average quality sheets for an average price. However, these sheets will fit up to a 15-inch depth and are woven with anti-pilling technology, so quality may be in the eye of the beholder.

Value

These sheets are above all else affordable. Anyone can buy these sheets and give bamboo sheets a try before investing in a higher-quality brand. Like their namesake, Hotel Sheets allow customers to have a new sleeping experience, even if only for a short time. That said, you get what you pay for, so these sheets will be a frequent purchase because of their average quality.

Maintenance

Treat Hotel Sheets as you would any other sheet set. These sheets are machine washable and are safe for the dryer. Because of the bright colors, you might want to be careful of dye bleeding, but washing on cold should make other clothes safe.

Warranty

Hotel Sheets don’t have a warranty, but considering their affordability, we’re okay with the lack of money-back guarantee.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking, and thermo-regulating
  • Soft as silk

Cons

  • Lower quality
  • Will need to be replaced
  • Brighter sheets might bleed or fade

Conclusion

Let’s go over what we’ve learned in this Cariloha Sheets review.First, bamboo sheets are awesome for many reasons, but mainly for how comfortable and eco-friendly they are. Your conscience can rest easy after purchasing bamboo sheets because you know that bamboo is a renewable resource that will replace itself in 3 years or less. Bamboo sheets are also incredibly soft – softer than cotton, silk, and cashmere – as well as being generally very durable.Second, bamboo sheets are good choices for people with sensitive skin or people who get hot easily when they sleep. Bamboo sheets are hypoallergenic, lightweight, and very breathable. Bamboo sheets are also moisture-wicking, so nighttime sweat and overheating isn’t a problem during the hottest parts of the year. Moreover, bamboo sheets are also low maintenance and easy to take care of since they can be machine washed or dried just like any other sheet set.Overall, bamboo sheets are a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to improve their sleep. However, we also learned in this Cariloha Sheets review that bamboo sheets can be a pricey investment. The high quality of Cariloha sheets is rivaled only by the Pure Bamboo sheets, both of which come with warranties to soothe your practical side. If you’re looking to dip your toe into bamboo sheets without taking the plunge of a triple-digit investment in sheets, then the Hotel Sheets are a solid option for you to test whether or not you even like bamboo sheets. If you want soft, cool, comfortable sheets that are friendly to the environment and hypoallergenic, then Cariloha’s 100% organic bamboo sheets are exactly what you’re looking for. It’s an investment that will have you sleeping easy.

Zinus Mattress: Our Review

When shopping for a new mattress, the new bed-in-a-box trend is simultaneously exciting and frightening. You might shuffle through questions in your mind. Is it a good idea to buy a bed online? What if the mattress isn’t all it claims to be? A Zinus mattress is among many mattresses now available to buy online.

We investigated the Zinus mattress to see if it is a wise online purchase. We did our homework on Zinus and the mattresses they sell. We then compared the Zinus mattress collection to other mattresses sold online to determine if buying a Zinus mattress is worth the risk.

About Zinus Mattress

Zinus is a South Korean brand and manufacturer of mattresses and minimalistic bed platforms and frames. Zinus originally sold comfortable outdoor products and switched to beds and mattresses in 2003. Zinus has operations on both coasts of the US and five other countries around the world. Large-scale manufacturing facilities are set to open within the next year in China.

Comfort is the marketing point for the Zinus mattress. Their website has a helpful quiz to help find the best fitting bed. The best mattress options appear after entering answers about size, bed occupancy, and sleep positions.

The Zinus mattress is one of the most popular budget memory foam mattresses. Their inexpensive memory foam mattresses are infused with green tea and activated charcoal to provide long-term odor elimination.

Product Specs

Memory foam and springs are the two construction types for a Zinus mattress. They offer options for each of these constructions, as well as a combination mattress. Memory foam, spring mattress, and hybrid mattresses have a variety of benefits depending on sleep preferences.

Memory Foam

Mattresses made from memory foam distribute body weight evenly. Compared to spring mattresses, memory foam mattresses feel firm and they do not bounce. Antimicrobial memory foam doesn’t attract dust mites and mold, which makes it a good option for people with allergies. Memory foam mattresses are rolled, vacuum sealed, and placed in boxes for delivery. At home, the vacuum seal is broken, and the roll of memory foam expands into a mattress.

Spring Or Innerspring

Spring mattresses are bouncy mattresses filled with internal coils and usually covered with a plush exterior layer. Side sleepers may get the most pressure relief from a spring mattress. Spring mattresses have a cooler sleep temperature than memory foam. Receiving a spring mattress through the mail means receiving a very large delivery because it cannot be compressed; therefore, it always maintains the same shape, size, and form.

Hybrid

Hybrid mattresses are a combination of memory foam and springs. A hybrid mattress brings the best of both materials into one bed. Memory foam provides support and springs give the bed some bounce.

Sizing

Each Zinus mattress type comes in standard US bed sizes. These sizes are:

  • Twin
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King

Thickness

Photo of a bedroom with mattress near a window

Image via Pexels

Besides the size of the bed it will go on, every Zinus mattress has a thickness option to choose from. Selecting thickness for a mattress is important. Selecting a mattress that is too thick can carry the risk of sagging after time. If the mattress is too thin, sleep can be uncomfortable.

The thickness scale for a Zinus mattress ranges from 5 to 14 inches. Thickness options vary among Zinus mattress types. Check individual mattress specifications for details.

Pricing

One of the biggest advantages to buying a Zinus mattress is the price. Zinus offers a variety of styles for budget prices. In the past, memory foam beds were extremely expensive, and out of the price range of many mattress buyers. Zinus helped usher in a new wave of affordable memory foam mattresses. Prices for mattresses from Zinus start at around $75 for a 5-inch Twin size memory foam bed. The high end of pricing is around $700 for a 12-inch King size spring mattress.

How It Compares

We put the Zinus mattress to the test to see how it stacks up against its competitors. Every mattress brand we reviewed has several mattress options to choose from. This is a cumulative review for all mattresses for each brand.

Prices for the Zinus mattress vary depending on the size, thickness, and material. A thin Twin-size bed is cheaper than a 14-inch California King, for example.

  • Comfort
  • Options & Quality
  • Packaging
  • Warranty

Overall the Zinus mattress is comfortable, but it runs on the firm side. Even the plush version of the mattress can feel too firm for some sleepers. For those who want a firm mattress, Zinus is comfortable.

The selection of mattress thicknesses and sizes is good. There are options for many types of sleepers. The mattress is made well, but may not hold out for the entire warranty period.

Packaging for the memory foam Zinus mattress is good. The box is a convenient size for delivery and for making it through the bedroom door.

Zinus offers a limited 10-year warranty, which is about average for a bed at this price point.

PROS

  • Affordable memory foam beds
  • Good selection to choose from
  • Comfortable

CONS

  • Initial off-gassing odor
  • Firmer than expected
  • Difficult to reach customer service

Signature Sleep

Signature Sleep 10" Coil Mattress

Image via Amazon

Like a Zinus mattress, Signature Sleep is known for selling affordable mattresses. Signature Sleep is a mattress company that has been around for over 50 years. They have sold millions of mattresses. Mattresses from Signature Sleep are sold on their website and by partnering retail businesses.

Signature Sleep offers a few more options in mattress materials and construction than Zinus. Mattress materials offered by Signature Sleep are: standard coil, independent encased coil, memory foam, hybrid, and Nanobionic®.

The Signature Sleep website is straightforward in presenting what their mattresses do. The homepage features a simple, guided illustration for what the mattress is made of; whether it is firm, medium, or plush; and any other useful details about the mattress.

Price                         $ to $$

Signature Sleep is a strong competitor for Zinus. The low price is definitely a selling point for Signature Sleep.

  • Comfort
  • Options & Quality
  • Packaging
  • Warranty

Signature Sleep mattresses run soft and may not have the amount of firmness many sleepers need for back support.

Signature Sleep offers mattresses in Twin, Extra-Large Twin, Full, Queen, and King sizes. California King size mattresses are not available from Signature Sleep. The quality is good for this price point.

Packaging for the Signature Sleep is great with memory foam models. The ultra-convenient vacuum-sealed bag-within-a-box makes the new bed process much easier.

Warranty for a Signature Sleep mattress ranges from 5 to 15 years, depending on the series. There is a flat fee of $75 to redeem the warranty for adult mattresses and a $25 fee for baby mattresses sent from the US.

PROS

  • Have options for all sleep positions
  • Durable
  • Above-average motion isolation for the price point

CONS

  • May require a box spring or foundation
  • Strong off-gassing odor
  • Firmness is on the soft side

Olee

Olee Sleep 10 Inch Gel Infused Layer Top Memory Foam Mattress

Image via Amazon

Olee has a “Six Innovation” strategy for their mattresses. Olee is committed to providing environmentally friendly alternatives in mattresses, foundations, and packaging. They use organic cotton, green tea, and fresh charcoal for odor and moisture control.Olee mattresses materials are memory foam, spring, hybrid, foam and fiber, and gel-infused memory foam. Available sizes are Twin, Full, Queen, King, and California King for Olee mattresses.

Price                          $ to $$

The most expensive Olee mattress is a little more than Zinus and Signature Sleep, but still well within the budget-friendly category for mattresses.

  • Comfort
  • Options & Quality
  • Packaging
  • Warranty

Olee has a slight edge on comfort compared to its rivals. The bed runs more true to firm and plush descriptions.

Olee doesn’t offer information to buyers on how to select the right mattress, but they do have a variety of options to choose from. They offer mattresses made from both memory foam and springs. Quality feels a little better in Olee mattresses compared to the previous two brands.

Packaging for Olee mattress is exceptional because they are environmentally friendly.

Olee offers a limited 10-year warranty for spring and memory foam mattresses. This is standard for mattresses in this price range.

PROS

  • Price
  • Eco-friendly
  • True to description firmness and plushness
  • Expands quickly

CONS

  • Unwrapping odor
  • Too lightweight

Lucid

LUCID 12 Inch Twin Hybrid Mattress

Image via Amazon

The Lucid website is helpful for determining which mattress to choose. The Lucid marketing strategy is built around the variety of choices their brand offers. Lucid mattresses come in three materials types: gel memory foam, latex, and hybrid. The Lucid hybrid is a combination of gel memory foam, latex, and steel coils. Sizes for Lucid mattresses are Twin, Extra-Large Twin, Full, Queen, King, and California King. Thickness for Lucid beds range from 5 to 16 inches.

Price                          $ to $$

A 5-inch gel memory foam Twin mattress starts at $80. A 16-inch hybrid King-size Lucid mattress cost around $780.

  • Comfort
  • Options & Quality
  • Packaging
  • Warranty

Lucid mattresses are comfortable. However, they lack the edge support offered in other mattresses which could eventually lead to a sagging mattress.

Lucid offers a good selection of mattress materials, sizes, and thicknesses. The quality feels good, and the product seems durable.

Lucid mattresses arrive in the mail in a sturdy recyclable box ready for the big bed unveiling.

Lucid offers a limited 20-year warranty for mattresses.

PROS

  • Cost-effective
  • Many options
  • Good motion isolation

CONS

  • Strong scent after unboxing
  • Lacking edge support

Purple Mattress

 Purple Queen Mattress

Image via Amazon

The Purple mattress is unique in that it contains a hyper elastic polymer grid layer in between the layers of foam. This hyper-elastic polymer grid layer adds extra support for the body. The grid is also effective for keeping the body cool during sleep. The mattress is unique because it doesn’t contain the materials found in other mattresses.

The Purple website offers video tests to help buyers decide which mattress to choose. The website also features videos and GIFs that show the special hyper elastic polymer grid outside of the bed. They are entertaining and informative to watch.

There are two mattress styles to choose from. The Original Purple Mattress contains a 2-inch layer of the grid. The New Purple mattress provides a choice between 2-, 3-, or 4-inch layers of the grid. Purple mattresses come in Extra-Large Twin, Full, Queen, King, and California King sizes.

Price                         $$ to $$$

Pricing for Purple mattresses are substantially higher than the other mattresses in this review. A Twin-size Original Purple mattress starts at around $700. A California King New Purple Mattress tops out around $1900.

  • Comfort
  • Options & Quality
  • Packaging
  • Warranty

It’s a toss-up for comfort with the Purple mattress. The mattress provides back support, but it can be a little too firm for some people.

Purple mattresses are of decent quality, but they are lacking in options.

Purple mattresses come zipped up in a giant bag. The bag has handles which makes lugging it to the bedroom easier, but it is very heavy.

Purple mattresses come with a 10-year limited warranty. Because Purple is more expensive, we expected the warranty to be longer.

PROS

  • Relieves back pressure
  • Cool in temperature
  • No unpleasant odor

CONS

  • Very heavy mattress
  • More expensive
  • Runs a little firm
  • Prone to sagging

Conclusion

Choosing a Zinus mattress is a good option for the budget-conscious bed shopper who wants a memory foam, spring, or hybrid mattress. The added bonus of having a bed delivered in a box is a major perk. Zinus mattresses are suitable for use with or without a box spring or platform. Options for selecting a desired size and thickness for a Zinus mattress are comparable with much more expensive mattresses.

The saying “you get what you pay for” doesn’t seem to apply to the Zinus mattress. Zinus truly shines when compared to pricier mattress brands. Zinus delivers a quality mattress for a fraction of the price of other manufacturers.

1. How to Choose the Best Pillow for Neck Pain?

There are several things you should consider when choosing the best pillow for neck pain. A study by Harvard says that people with neck pain should consider using a pillow made of memory foam, or a firm, adjustable inner core pillow like a water-based pillow that will conform to the head and keep the neck in proper alignment with the spine. Cervical and orthopedic pillows are created specifically to perform this function.

Water-based pillows and memory foam pillows have an advantage because they redistribute the weight of your body as you move and absorb the shock to your vertebra. Water filled pillows are great because you can completely adjust their firmness level as well.

You should also consider care and ease of cleaning. You want this pillow to last you a long time, right? Finding one that’s easy to clean will help you preserve it. Pick out a neck pain pillow that has an easy-to-remove washable case and an inner core that is easy to wash in a machine or wipe clean with a damp cloth.

2. Best Types of Neck Pain Pillows?

The very best pillow for neck pain relief will be made of strong fiber filling, memory foam, or are a water-based construction. Roll-shaped pillows are another great choice for people who suffer from neck pain but be warned, while they are great for short-term use while traveling or in unusual sleeping positions, they are not the best for everyday use. They only support the neck and not the head or upper back and shoulders like you would need.

3. What Causes Nightly Neck Pain?

Inside the cervical column, nerves run up and down from the brain to all the other parts of the body. While any part of the spine can be compressed or pinched, causing various degrees of pain or numbness, the neck is the most vulnerable during the night while we sleep. Keeping the neck in line with our heads and back is one of the best ways to prevent injury, stiffness, and pain in the morning.

4. Overall Price Range?

As with most consumer products, the price range of the best pillows for neck pain is dependent on what the customer is willing to pay. For our top ten list, we tried to only pick products we feel offer the best value for the money and are excellent choices for our budget-conscious readers. The overall price range of our top ten list ranges from $40 to $117.

Nectar Mattress: Our Complete & Unbiased Review

image via pexels

The Nectar Mattress is one of the most popular memory foam mattress options on the market today, and it’s no wonder why with the lifetime warranty this manufacturer provides. In this review, we’ll compare the Nectar Sleep Mattress with some similar mattresses to see how it holds up.

What Is a Nectar Mattress?

A Nectar Mattress, or Nectar Sleep mattress, is a gel memory foam mattress design and brand launched by DreamCloud LLC in 2017. The company is headquartered in San Mateo, California. Nectar mattresses are available for purchase online, and each is delivered tightly compressed in a box.

Unboxing

After unboxing a Nectar mattress, it will take around 24 to 72 hours for it to expand fully. As with other memory foam mattresses, this mattress will initially give off a noticeable odor. This process is referred to as “off-gassing,” and it is common for this product.

Free Shipping and Returns

DreamCloud LLC offers free shipping and returns for all Nectar Mattress purchases. The current Nectar tagline is: “The last mattress you’ll ever need to buy.”

Lifetime Warranty

A Nectar mattress comes with a lifetime warranty, whereas many memory foam mattresses come with a 10-year warranty. These warranty terms are exceptional for the product category.

365-Day Trial Period

Besides the warranty, the company gives buyers a full year to try out a new Nectar Sleep mattress before deciding whether they want to keep it. This 365-night trial is only available to those purchasing from the Nectar website, but Amazon customers receive a generous 180-night trial for the mattress as well.

Frame Compatibility

The Nectar Sleep mattress works with all bed frame types, including box springs, slatted bed bases, and platform beds.

Nectar Mattress Specs

Image via pexels

The Nectar mattress is made from five layers of foam within a structure designed to provide the most comfortable night’s sleep. All CertiPUR-US foam in the Nectar Sleep mattress is certified safe from heavy metals, ozone depleters, PBDEs, and TDCPP. Let’s take a closer look at some of the specific materials used in the construction of this high-quality mattress.

Tencel Cover

The top layer on a Nectar Sleep mattress is the Tencel cooling cover. Tencel is a sustainable and environmentally friendly fabric made from wood pulp, and it is more durable than cotton, yet some say it feels as luxurious as silk. This specialty cover is designed to keep sleepers cool throughout the night and also protect the foam layers beneath.

Quilted Gel Memory Foam

A one-inch quilted gel memory foam layer provides smooth contouring comfort and helps with nighttime body temperature regulation.

Gel Memory Foam

Next, a three-inch layer of gel memory foam adds another element of comfort and cooling while working to distribute body weight throughout the mattress.

Adaptive, Hi-Core Memory Foam

Directly underneath those two gel memory foam layers is a half-inch layer of “adaptive hi-core” memory foam to further support the body. This material, unlike traditional memory foam, adds springiness to the mattress.

Breathable Base Layer

A breathable base layer of foam provides the foundation for all the memory foam to rest on. This five-and-a-half inch support foam layer promotes air circulation and keeps the mattress stable.

Made in China

According to the Federal Trade Commission, the Nectar mattress is “wholly imported from China.”

How comfortable the 11-inch Nectar mattress will be for you depends on your personal preferences. This mattress is firm. It’s labeled as medium-firm, but it’s definitely firm in our view. If you are looking for a plush mattress, this one isn’t for you. If you want a firm, contouring mattress, however, this one just might fit the bill. More comfort-level options would help Nectar Sleep cater to customers with a wider variety of sleep preferences.

Comfort

4 Out of 5 Stars

Support

5 Stars

The Nectar mattress comes in one comfort level: medium-firm. Memory foam mattresses are typically more firm than traditional innerspring mattresses, but this mattress feels firm rather than medium. That said, the mattress is fully supportive.

Durability

5 Stars

Everything about this mattress looks and feels high in quality. We aren’t surprised that the company backs each Nectar mattress with such a long and comprehensive warranty. The protective Tencel covering is comfortable and included with your mattress for free.

Warranty

4 Stars

Nectar provides a lifetime warranty on its mattresses. They also offer a 180-day to 365-day trial for the mattress, depending on where you choose to purchase it. Some people have reported having trouble returning the mattress during the trial period, however, so please double-check terms with the seller of your choice before buying.

PROS

  • Minimal off-gassing odor reported
  • Manufacturer provides a long warranty for this mattress
  • This mattress works with all bed and frame types
  • Affordable pricing

CONS

  • The Nectar mattress only comes in one comfort level, which is too firm for many sleepers
  • This mattress provides only minimal side support

Casper Mattress

No products found.

Four layers of CertiPur-US foam make up the 10-inch Casper mattress we evaluated. A breathable open-cell foam forms the top layer, followed by high-density memory foam. Casper constructs the next layer from “zoned transition” foam, and a dense layer of support foam creates the base. The Casper Mattress is manufactured and designed in the U.S. This mattress is available online and will arrive compressed in a box.

Comfort

2 Out of 5 Stars

Most people find the Casper Mattress comfortable. No single mattress will work for everyone, however. This mattress is softer than many comparable memory foam mattresses, which earns it points in the books of plush mattress seekers.

One of the most common complaints about the Casper mattress is its strong off-gassing smell. All memory foam mattresses have off-gassing after compression for shipment, but the Casper Mattress may have one of the strongest and most enduring odors in the memory foam mattress world.

Support

3 Stars

For those who want or need a firm mattress for back support, a Casper mattress may not be the best choice. This softer memory foam mattress doesn’t offer enough support for many people.

Durability

3 Stars

The Casper mattress deserves an average durability rating. It likely won’t last through the 10-year warranty period, but the same could be said for many other memory foam mattresses. After a time, the mattress sags as the foam begins to break down.

Warranty

3 Stars

Casper offers a limited 10-year warranty on its mattresses. This warranty is voided if the mattress isn’t kept on an approved bed base type. The Casper mattress is suitable for use only on a “firm, solid surface,” according to the official Casper warranty, so it is not for use with box springs or slatted bed bases.

Casper offers a 100-night trial period with free returns during this time frame. However, many customers report having difficulty returning their Casper mattresses, so it may be important for you to confirm whether the trial period applies before purchasing a Casper product.

PROS

  • A softer memory foam mattress option
  • May be more comfortable for heavier users
  • Helps regulate nighttime temperatures

CONS

  • The mattress cover isn’t washable
  • Strong, lingering off-gassing aroma
  • Doesn’t offer enough back support for some

Sleep On Latex — Pure Green Natural Latex

No products found.

Four layers of CertiPur-US foam make up the 10-inch Casper mattress we evaluated. A breathable open-cell foam forms the top layer, followed by high-density memory foam. Casper constructs the next layer from “zoned transition” foam, and a dense layer of support foam creates the base. The Casper Mattress is manufactured and designed in the U.S. This mattress is available online and will arrive compressed in a box.

Comfort

5 Out of 5 Stars

The Sleep On Latex mattress comes in different firmnesses to accommodate different sleep types. They recommend the soft mattress for side sleepers; they design the medium mattress for back sleepers, side sleepers, and couples. The firm mattress is ideal for stomach sleepers or those who want or need a firm mattress.

Support

4 Stars

Sleep On Latex offers support options for many different types of sleepers. The firm mattress is sufficiently firm, and the soft mattress is adequately soft. The biggest issue with this mattress style is that it is thinner than many alternatives. You can opt for either a seven-inch version or a nine-inch model.

Durability

3 Stars

This natural materials in this mattress may not be as durable as those used by other manufacturers. The warranty only covers the mattress for 10 years, which leads us to believe that the mattress may be usable for only a fraction of that period. Some owners report noticeable indentations forming in the mattress after a relatively short period of time.

Warranty

3 Stars

Each new Pure Green natural latex mattress is covered by a limited 10-year warranty.

PROS

  • Natural construction materials
  • Sleep On Latex offers a variety of accurately presented comfort levels
  • Affordable for an all-natural mattress
  • Excellent customer service

CONS

  • The mattress cover isn’t washable
  • This isn’t the most durable mattress on the market
  • Thinner than many mattresses

Leesa Mattress

No products found.

The Leesa mattress we evaluated is made from three premium foam layers, including a two-inch cooling layer, a two-inch body-contouring layer, and a pressure-relieving six-inch base layer. Leesa mattresses are available for online box-delivered sale. This company donates one mattress to charity for every 10 mattresses sold, and Leesa mattresses are manufactured in the U.S.

Comfort

4 Out of 5 Stars

Many people find the Leesa mattress comfortable. It offers support without feeling too hard. The biggest concern plaguing this mattress is that, even with its cooling foam layer, many find that it runs hot at night. Also, this mattress may not be soft enough for some side sleepers.

Support

5 Stars

For most sleepers, the Leesa Mattress is very supportive. The mattress manages to feel both soft and firm to ease pressure points and prevent back aches.

Durability

2 Stars

There are many reports of Leesa mattresses sagging and wearing down after as little as one year of use, and this makes the foam quality used questionable. For $850 or so, most people expect and deserve a mattress that lasts longer than one or two years.

Warranty

3 Stars

Leesa offers a limited, non-transferable 10-year warranty for their mattress. Check with the retailer before buying a Leesa mattress to confirm whether this warranty applies. Also, note that this warranty coverage requires the use of the mattress on an approved bed frame or base. Leesa promotes a 100-night trial period for its mattresses, whether purchased directly from the maker or from Amazon.

PROS

  • Supportive for back sleepers
  • Most buyers find this mattress design comfortable

CONS

  • This mattress may not last as long as competitive models
  • Some report that a Leesa Mattress is hot at night
  • May be too firm for side sleepers

Conclusion

All things considered, we assigned the Nectar mattress 4.5 out of 5 stars as an overall value rating. It is a durable and well-made mattress backed by a lifetime warranty. The mattress is the only one in our review not made in the U.S., which might deter buyers. We like that a new Nectar mattress doesn’t put off a strong and long-lasting off-gassing scent, and that the Nectar Sleep mattress can be used with any bed base type. Overall, this mattress is a great value for the price if you enjoy a firm mattress.
