Our Thoughts On The Nuna Mixx2: Is It A Good Investment?

Whether you’ve got your first baby or your third on the way, a stroller is one of the high priority items on that “to do before the baby gets here” list. There’s a lot that goes into having a baby — and even more to stock up on and buy in preparation. It can be a busy and stressful time for new parents especially. Let’s check one thing off that list though: a stroller. We’re going to dive into the popular Nuna Mixx2 stroller as well as some of its competitors to see if it’s really worth the investment.

What Is the Nuna Mixx2?

No products found.

The Nuna Mixx2 is a versatile stroller that operates within 4 seating options to accommodate your quickly growing child. These seating arrangements work for newborns up to toddlers (birth to 50 lbs). Everything from reclining the chair to folding it up and re-opening it is simple and can typically be done one-handed in a minute or two.

There are plenty of accessories that the Nuna Mixx2 offers, like a bassinet, car seat and car seat adapter, rain cover, car seat cover, and more. While some of these are included (like the rain cover), some are handy extras you can package together to make a complete, easy-to-use travel set.

Product Specs

We have breezed through some of the features and specs of the Nuna Mixx2, but let’s take a closer look. Starting with the 4 seating options, we have the bassinet, which operates either with an optional approved bassinet (the Mixx2 bassinet) or simply by laying everything down flat. The travel system is the next seating arrangement. This allows you to attach a car seat with an adapter (and the adapter can stay on the stroller — it won’t get in the way of its function when the car seat is not attached), and is ideal for traveling with a baby.

Finally, the last two seat options are rear and front-facing seating. This is designed for toddlers who want to either face forward and see the world or face the rear and keep an eye on mom or dad. The great thing about these two options is that it doesn’t matter which way it’s facing when you fold it up.

Reclining the seat is easy and doable with one hand. There are 5 positions for reclining and the calf support is also adjustable to adapt to the position your child is in. The footrest is also adjustable to adapt to different heights and positions — maximizing comfort and safety easily and without complicated latches or locks.

There is a 3-point harness with an easy-release button that is great for you but complicated for your toddler to figure out on their own (which is the perfect balance). There is a removable arm bar as well to help keep kids in as well as provides a stabilizing structure for older kids.

One final feature worth falling in love with is that the seating fabric is completely removable and machine washable — a hallelujah for most of us out there who know just how messy kids at any age are.

Folding up the stroller is simple, and it rolls like a suitcase once you do (so don’t worry about lugging it around). Unfolding takes no time and can be done one handed as well. We cannot stress just how useful this is when you have a baby in one hand, a diaper bag on one shoulder, and are arguing with a stroller contraption with the other and it’s just not working. The handle for you to use is also adjustable, so mom, dad, or older brother or sister can easily push the stroller and even use the one-touch brake system as well.

Pricing

If you’ve been looking into getting a stroller, then you’re likely already aware that there is a fairly large price range for them on the market. It all depends on what features you want or need to make the purchase worth your while. The Nuna Mixx2 can be found for around $450, and the range we are working with for the entire comparison is about $220 to $500. Though, because prices are always changing, we are going to abbreviate each price as follows: up to $220 will be $; to $350 will be $$; to $500 will be $$$.

How the Nuna Mixx2 Compares

No products found.

We know there are lots of strollers on the market, each with their own unique features and offerings to new parents. There is a lot of competition, so to see where the Nuna Mixx2 really stands, we’ve brought in a few favorites to give the closest comparison we can.

In order to make sure this is as straightforward as possible, we used the following criteria: price, ease of use, safety, design quality, warranty, and pros and cons. We feel that these really bring out the highlights of each model as well as the areas parents may want to consider when buying a stroller.

Ease of Use

The Nuna Mixx2 is fairly simple to use. It mainly operates one-handed (even down to steering and maneuvering), which is pretty much a must for most parents. Switching between seating positions is easy and fast, as is folding and unfolding the stroller.

Our one issue here is that at about 30 lbs, the Nuna Mixx2 is a little heavier than some other strollers (its predecessor the Nuna Mixx included), so pulling it into the trunk is definitely not doable one-handed, though rolling it to the trunk while folded is.

Safety

With the harness, safety bar, and included seat adapters, there are a lot of safety features going on with this stroller. The tires are foam filled, so no worries about encountering different terrains. One-touch braking means more peace of mind too, and the oversized protective UPF 50+ canopy means protection from the sun or nap-time distractions (plus there’s a flip-out eyeshade for you to peek in on your baby and mesh paneling for breathability).

Our only counterpoint here is that we would recommend adding in an infant insert for newborn lying flat without a bassinet, as the flat position is not entirely flat and this may help with securing the newborn in addition to the harness.

Design Quality

The machine washable feature really strikes us a useful so we have to mention it again here. The oversized canopy with a hideaway sun visor, adjustable handles, and large storage with optional sections underneath are great additions that show how much thought was really put into the functionality of the stroller. It really needs to be more than just a method to carry a child around, and the Nuna Mixx2 seems to have a grasp on that need.

Warranty

There is a two-year warranty for the Nuna Mixx2 stroller, which is a good amount of time for a stroller with so many different moving parts. The good news here is that users haven’t really needed to cash in on the warranty and have been well pleased with the stroller.

PROS

  • Position options
  • Easy, one-handed use
  • Full canopy
  • Adaptable handle
  • Suitable for newborns
  • Machine washable
  • Versatile

CONS

  • Expensive
  • Heavy
  • May want additional newborn insert

Britax 2017 B-Agile Lightweight Stroller

This is a great affordable lightweight stroller option for parents. It focuses on being one-handed and stable while being as light as possible to make sure use is simple, from taking it out of the car to putting it back in. This stroller can be used from birth to 55 lbs and has adjustable seating to accommodate newborns and toddlers alike.

Ease of Use

This stroller focuses on one-handed use from setting it up, to steering, to stowing it. It only weighs a little over 16 lbs, too, which means it is easier to stow in the trunk one-handed if needed.

We do wish this model had an adjustable handlebar for the driver, as being just a little too short or too tall can become more than just inconvenient when you’re pushing the stroller around all day.

Safety

With a one-touch braking system and a 5-point harness, your child will be secure. There is also a suspension system put in place to negate some of the bouncing from various terrains (which the rubber wheels can handle). While it’s not an all-terrain stroller, it should definitely get the job done on the terrains you typically come across.

The canopy is large and has a window to peek in (though it does velcro shut instead of using magnets like the Nuna) and the back is a closable mesh so you can let air in during the summer or keep heat in during the colder days. We do wish this stroller had a safety bar, though it isn’t necessary for the safety of the child riding.

Design Quality

With the lightweight design of this model, we were a little concerned about its stability. This ended up being unwarranted. The B-Agile does a great job at creating a stable base — even when you add counterweights like a bag hanging off the handles. The bottom storage pocket is sufficiently large but not very deep (take that as you will). The car seat adapters are included as well, in case you want the entire travel system.

We were disappointed that there wasn’t an adjustable handlebar and that there weren’t as many seating positions to choose from. The fabric also doesn’t state that it’s machine washable, which is a disappointment. However, this stroller gets the job done for a significantly more budget-friendly price.

Warranty

There is a one-year warranty included that is non-transferable to other owners. Luckily, this warranty seems to do the trick and many users don’t need to use it as the stroller lasts through that period.

PROS

  • Budget-friendly
  • Lightweight
  • Easy, one-handed use
  • Stable
  • Large canopy

CONS

  • No restraint bar
  • Few seating options
  • Storage not very large
  • No adjustable handle

CYBEX Balios S Stroller

This stroller is known for its design quality and large canopy that covers the baby entirely. All-terrain wheels and one-touch braking round out the stroller and give it a place in this comparison with a lot of the same features to the Nuna like a large storage basket and one-handed use — including folding and setting up.

Price

Ease of Use

With adjustable handles, all-terrain wheels, and one-handed use from setup to folding, this stroller is honestly very simple to use. There are a few different seating options like fully reclined and front and rear facing that are all easy to switch to as well. This stroller has one of the deeper reclines for a newborn or sleeping baby, too.Our complaint here is that it isn’t a lightweight stroller, so even though it offers one-handed functioning, stowing the 24 lbs stroller in the trunk is probably a two-handed job.

Safety

There is a 5-point harness system as well as a restraint bar for added safety. The suspension system also aids in providing a smoother and safer ride. The large canopy offers a mesh window to peek in which also protects a sleeping child from the elements. The one-touch brake system is also a must for safety as well as convenience.

Design Quality

This stroller is compatible with car seats as well as a variety of their own options, too. The fabric is also well-made and soft to the touch — however, it is not machine washable. The storage basket is sufficiently large though not particularly deep, but should definitely do the trick for holding a large diaper bag and some extras. We do wish this stroller came with a rain cover and car seat adapters. While there are plenty of extra features offered, these two would be nice to have at the get-go without spending a lot of extra money. There are also not a lot of seat options beyond front, rear, and reclined.

Warranty

This stroller offers a standard warranty that many users have not needed to use. Your warranty may depend on where you buy the stroller from though, as there are varying reports about the warranty.

PROS

  • One-handed use
  • All-terrain wheels
  • Adjustable handle

CONS

  • Does not include rain cover or seat adapters
  • Expensive
  • Limited seating options
  • Heavier

Thule Urban Glide 2 Jogging Stroller

This stroller is built for parents on the go. It uses 3-wheel suspension, offers plenty of storage, handle brakes, and reflective paneling — just to name a few features. This stroller quickly became a top choice for parents who need something efficient and durable for 6 months to 75 lbs.

Price

$$$

Ease of Use

The adjustable handlebar with the addition of a hand brake system makes this not only safe but easy to use. There is also a runaway strap to keep the stroller from getting away from you. Most of this stroller can function one-handed, with the exception of some of the seat positioning. The fold is also one-handed and very simple to use — though the stroller does weight about 25 lbs so storing may not be one-handed.

As a side note, this stroller is only meant for newborns to 6 months if you have an approved car seat. This may not be an important factor for some parents, but for new parents looking to only spend a chunk of change once for a stroller they don’t need to update, you’ll want to make sure your car seat works with this stroller.

Safety

The new braking system and a 5-point harness work well together for safety. The extendable canopy with mesh paneling and a pop-out sun visor are also good additions for protection from the sun. The auto-lock feature is also great for keeping everything in place once the stroller is folded, and the reflective accents just add yet another safety feature some parents will appreciate.

Design Quality

The large canopy and large storage options (with extra pockets in and out of the actual seat) are great design features here. The added hand brake and adjustable tracking only work in this stroller’s favor, too. The adjustable handlebar is a great extra as well. We do wish there were more seating options, and the handlebar and cup holder are sold separately which is also a con, along with the fabric not being machine washable.

Warranty

There is a limited lifetime warranty for this stroller that users have really appreciated because no matter how well built, over the years you’ll need replacements.

PROS

  • Lifetime warranty
  • Hand brake
  • All-terrain wheels
  • Large canopy
  • Large storage and extra pockets
  • Adjustable handles
  • One-handed use

CONS

  • Expensive
  • Heavier
  • Restraint bar, rain cover, and cup holder not included
  • Not meant for newborns
No products found.

Conclusion

Now that we’ve seen our competition, let’s get back to the Nuna Mixx2. It’s obvious there is a lot to consider when buying a stroller, but having seen what is typically offered by the competition, we feel that Nuna delivers. Overall, we would give the Nuna Mixx2 4.5 out of 5 stars, and can definitely recommend it for new parents especially.
