A bedroom comforter: finishes off a bright new look for your decor

When it comes to your bedroom, nothing beats a quality comforter to make your bed look great, and you feel really comfortable and cozy. It is really the focus of your bedroom, because of it’s sheer size, and so you want that comforter to be the nicest you can afford. How do you go about picking a bedroom comforter then? Well, bedroom comforters come in all types of designs and fabrics for everyone in the family.

You’ll find them made from various materials, but some of the most popular these days are: cotton… down…. polyester…. silk

Comforters made from cotton are economical, warm and comfy, and let your body breathe, or release moisture so you sleep in comfort. The outer cover is made with varying thread counts, the better ones will be in the 180 range and up for the best in softness and long term durability. If you don’t want to worry about thread counts, no problem, just get yourself a nice cover, known as a duvet cover,¬†for your bedroom comforter and you’ll be good to go and have a new fresh look to boot! You’ll find the cotton comforters with various designs, some of the more popular being:

woodland…wildlife designs….. And also plush solid colors that range from: blue….eggshell…green….navy

You’ll find something to match any bedroom decor. You may want to consider a comforter cover if you buy a white or light color comforter, just to keep it protected from soil and dirt.

Down comforters are traditionally considered at the top of the list when you have some serious cold to deal with. Nothing can warm and comfort you like covers filled with fluffy down and feathers. Goose down is one of the most popular fills, and comes from the little insulating tufts of feathers from the undercoats-so you know that a comforter or other bed covering made from down HAVE to be wonderful and toasty.

You can pick these types of comforters from various weights, according to fill power, or how many ounces of down are actually in the comforter. The higher the number, the warmer the comforter will be. Dry clean them only by a pro. Not needed very often, maybe every 4-5 years with proper care and of course a quality duvet cover. Look for numbers in this range. The fill power number means how many cubic inches of space that down will take up. The more fill and loft, the more air it will trap, and the warmer your comforter will be.

at about 600 is respectable.

at around 700 is better

700 or more is the best, with 800 or more being very rare and expensive.

Look for ‘baffle box construction’ or words with ‘baffle’ in the description. This means that the comforter will have an internal layer of fabric that holds the down in place inside the box design for maximum loft. It also keeps the down from shifting around and forming lumps.

If the comforter doesn’t say baffle box or baffle, then chances are that it is sewn through, which is less expensive, but also possibly not as well made. The down may shift, and your comforter may lose loft, meaning the down will over time not stand up like it did at first, meaning the down will lose insulation and not be as warm and comfy.

Polyester and cotton blend comforters are very popular! They are economical, lightweight, warm, and come in a huge array of colors, prints and styles to suit everyone. They are popular for kids, teens and adults because they are durable and tough, and can really decorate any bedroom with flair! Some are even reversible for added extra value. These comforters are usually machine washable too, which is a better option for some people.

They can’t be used by some people that have severe allergies though, and they’ll get stuffy sometimes because they don’t allow the body to breathe like the more natural fabrics will.

And then you have the silk comforters, which have come into their own as an alternative to down. They used to be reserved as luxury bedding for the wealthy ruling class in Asia, but now these comforters can be in anyone’s bedroom!

They are very lightweight, are allergy-free and are even warmer than medium weight down comforters according to people that love them. Normally they come in white or off-white, so you’ll need a comforter cover for these. They will also need to be professionally dry-cleaned to keep them clean and comfortable.
